Review of Dapoxetine for Premature Ejaculation

Rated: 6 out of 10
by PrematureEjaculation.org

With so many different premature ejaculation medications and supplements flooding the market, it's little wonder that men often become confused about which option is right for them. Dapoxetine is yet another entry into this already-crowded playing field, and it claims to manage the symptoms of premature ejaculation through by virtue of being in the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class of drugs. Dapoxetine hydrochloride is currently only available in a handful of European countries, and has yet to be approved by the FDA in the United States.

Men who are looking for help with premature ejaculation are advised to tread carefully when considering this experimental new drug.

What Is Dapoxetine Hydrochloride?

Dapoxetine hydrochloride - often referred to simply as Dapoxetine - is marketed under the name Priligy and it is an SSRI that is geared to help men suffering from premature ejaculation.

SSRIs are a class of drugs that are traditionally used to treat depression and anxiety; Dapoxetine would be the first and only drug with regulatory approval for treating premature ejaculation. Whether or not it is ultimately approved by the FDA remains unclear, though. Doctors have been known to prescribe depression medications for men suffering from premature ejaculation, but Dapoxetine would be the first drug specifically formulated for this purpose.

Dapoxetine Side Effects

As a new drug on the premature ejaculation and pharmaceutical market - and because it is still in its trial phase in the United States - the side effects of Dapoxetine hydrochloride remain hazy and unclear. The fact that it is an SSRI, though, provides some clues as to the side effects that may be expected to come along with taking Dapoxetine.

SSRIs have well-known sexual side effects that include erectile dysfunction, which would seem to only create yet another problem for men who are already worried about their performance in the bedroom. Up to 60% of SSRI users report some sort of sexual dysfunction that began after taking antidepressants.

Other common SSRI side effects include but are not limited to headaches, dizziness, urinary retention, tremors, and at worst, thoughts of suicide.

Buy Dapoxetine

Men in the United States looking to cure their premature ejaculation may be out of luck for the time being. You cannot get a hold of Dapoxetine legally for the time being, as it continues undergoing the FDA's approval process. Dapoxetine hydrochloride was first submitted for approval to the FDA back in 2004, and there is no telling when - or if - it will ultimately be approved.

Attempting to purchase Dapoxetine from a foreign country where it has been approved is not advisable (and expensive), as the trials being conducted in the United States may yet uncover some worrisome information. Until it is approved, Dapoxetine hydrochloride will remain unavailable for purchase by United States citizens.

Does Dapoxetine Work?

Since Dapoxetine is not yet available in the United States, its effectiveness remains unclear. As it continues to undergo the vigorous trials conducted by the FDA, more will be learned about whether it truly is an effective treatment for premature ejaculation. In the meantime, men who wish to treat premature ejaculation should explore other methods of treatment than Dapoxetine hydrochloride.

Additionally, because of the potential adverse side effects, those who have experienced trouble with SSRIs in the past would be wise to steer clear of it altogether. The bottom line is that there is simply no way to gauge the benefits - if any - of Dapoxetine at this early stage.
